Does anyone else get annoyed when they click on a post without seeing the sponsored tag? Plus what is the deal with locked comments on sponsored posts? What is the point of putting something like that on Jalopnik without letting people discuss it? I feel like the discussions on Jalopnik and OPPO are what makes this site so great.
TLDR: If sponsored posts are going to be a thing, at least let us make fun of comment on it

That Lexus one is horrible and I really tried to read it, just for shits and giggles, but had to give up.

Locked comments is a no brainer.
The amount of backlash and shit-talk would be huge. You can't keep a sponsor very long if 400+ people trash your brand.

It's non-commentable because the people who make those posts bought their right to do so. They're paying the bills. You can't seriously expect Gawker to let the house guests and common commentariat (us) shit all over subsidized posts. It's not gonna happen.

I'd argue that ads aren't meant to be a forum for discussion. If you put your marketing message out there, and someone immediately writes "LOL GAY" underneath it, then your message is immediately lost, or at least tainted.

Did you read that Lexus one awhile ago? It was too funny...

Maybe come up with ads and write ups that win people to your brand? Use it as a sounding board to see what the enthusiasts want? I don't think the people on here are thinking " wow that write up from Lexus really makes me feel like going out and buying one of these sporty™ F line cars!"

Have a list of rules for comments on sponsored posts e.g. not just (I hate this brand they suck dur). I feel like they would get way more page views that way.

Could you just have a mod waiting in the wings deleting those comments as they come in? Page views are page views, an open discussion would get more views I guarantee it.

That's what spurred this post, it's the worst I've seen.

Social media like the Gawker network has its place in marketing and market research. That's evidenced in the existence of programs like NetBase and internal social media initiatives that a lot of consumer companies have now.
Purchase intent is a very important factor and they can't tell that by comments on here. You don't know if the person saying "ADD A SUPERCHARGER" has a driver's license let alone the ability to buy the car.
Research done with a poorly managed sample is usually not very good or useful.

I can't remember exactly but it was like "Get in your IS in the morning and let the engine shake you awake"
lolololol let the Lexus V6 shake you awake

Yeah but since we have a comment rating system you could actually tell whether that is just a moronic comment or if it is something that Jalops would like. I really think we should move to thumb up/down rating systems for comments, that way the community can silence jackasses ourselves. Hell just see what their account is linked to0 and you can get a good idea of the demographics. Combine that with a "No Burner" policy for sponsored posts and you could market.

In market research it is way more sophisticated than that. At an extremely basic level they would need personal income, gender, occupation, and that whole battery. Linking to somebody's Facebook or email doesn't tell you very much since you'd have to hunt for the information and that's $$.
I like the up/down feature idea!

Yeah I suppose it is a difficult problem, those ads just feel so out of place.
I really do think we need a downvote as well as a star, that way authors can police stuff a bit so the mods can find the bad comments faster.

People don't follow rules, and its not really worthwhile to moderate the once and awhile subsidized posts. Never mind trying to convince clients who flat out don't want that at all moderated or not to stay and deal with it, instead of taking their business elsewhere. Money talks.

AdBlock means I never see ads, aside from sponsored posts, but no ads.

I'd argue a sponsored post IS an ad...

Well if they are paying for it it might be worthwhile, especially if it reaches more people who see it on users "Recommended By ___". I would Imagine at least offering that to the clients might get a few to try it out.
